What's your favorite way to enjoy a cigar?
I find that cigars are most enjoyable when I can fully engage my senses. Whether I'm on the golf course, working with my hands, or even in my office during a business call, a cigar can enhance the moment. But the most rewarding experience is when I'm winding down, ready to transition from the day. I create a comfortable environment, ideally outdoors, and focus on the cigar itself – the construction, the flavor profile, the draw, and the release of smoke. It's a very deliberate and sensory experience.

What's one of your favorite memories with La Gloria Cubana?
A particularly memorable experience is the consistent positive reaction I get when I share La Gloria Cubanas. At golf outings, business functions, or even casual get-togethers, they're always a hit. It's gratifying to see the knowledgeable cigar aficionados recognize their quality, and equally satisfying to introduce novice smokers to the world of fine cigars. I've become something of an ambassador, guiding people to discover the pleasures of a well-made cigar that's also attainable.

When and how were you first introduced to La Gloria Cubana?
My introduction to La Gloria Cubana came during the height of the COVID -19 epidemic. As my palate evolved and continued to develop, I sought recommendations from my local lounge. The Series R was suggested, and after trying it, I was so impressed that I purchased a box and haven't looked back.

A Legacy Reignited
The legend Ernesto Perez-Carrillo has returned to La Gloria Cubana. Ernesto has long been a key player with both La Gloria Cubana and the cigar industry in general.
Ernesto catapulted La Gloria Cubana into the spotlight by crafting one of his original cigars, La Gloria Cubana Wavell, now called the Classic, which still features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. This blend scored a 90-point rating from Cigar Aficionado and launched La Gloria Cubana onto the market.
Because of this success, Ernesto opened a second El Credito Factory in the Dominican Republic, which helped La Gloria Cubana become the legendary and prestigious brand it is today. Ernesto also developed the iconic Serie R—one of the first 60-ring gauge cigars and a cigar that earned a 90-point rating, proving his ability to craft timeless blends with superior ratings.
After helping La Gloria Cubana rise to fame, Ernesto went on to create his own boutique brand: E.P. Carrillo Cigars, which has twice earned the title of Cigar Aficionado Cigar of the Year, alongside dozens of 90+ point ratings.
Now, he is returning to his roots to create a blend that reflects his mark on La Gloria Cubana: simply glorious.
